Wii Fit U Direct

Once again, Nintendo went and dropped a Nintendo Direct on us without any prior warning. As you may have guessed, this is about the upcoming Wii Fit U. Personally, this doesn't really interest me, but I figure it's worth going over anyway.

The Wii Fit U Direct started by introducing us to the Wii Fit Trainer, who has a new look. Her hairstyle has been changed to make her look "more athletic", and she now wears green. I don't know whether this will have any affect on her appearance in Super Smash Bros..
So the bulk of the presentation was spent talking about Wii Fit U (would've never thought that, huh?). A "Fit Meter" will be released, which is like a pedometer, though it keeps track of a lot more statistics. Altitude, calories burned, target of calories to burn, time, steps are some of the things it can track.
The data from the Fit Meter can be transferred to the Wii U, where you can view even more detailed graphs of your progress. The example shown in this presentation was of a Nintendo's employee's journey to a mountain. The altitude line graph spiked, and there was a bar graph showing the intensity of that employee's exercise.
A free trial of Wii Fit U can be downloaded from the 1st November 2013 to the 31st January 2014. It includes everything in the game, but is only usable for 31 days after it is started up for the first time. However, if you get a Fit Meter and sync it to the game, you can then continue using it indefinitely.
The game's official release is December 6th 2013. There will be bundles; one with the Fit Meter, and another with both the Fit Meter and the Balance Board.

Talking of the Balance Board, Wii Street U has been updated to include Balance Board functionality. You can choose a place, and then walk in place on the Balance Board in order to simulate walking through that particular area. Wii Street U is available for download right now for free, though only until October 21st 2013.

Finally, we have something that does interest me: Wii Sports Club. The original Wii Sports game that launched alongside the Wii way back in 2006 has been given a HD makeover and online functionality. Users can create and join clubs, taking on each other online. Rankings can be increased by taking on rival clubs. Of course, there will be MiiVerse integration as well. Just as they did in Wii Sports Resort, each sport will require the use of Wii MotionPlus.
From 7th November 2013, Tennis and Baseball will be available for download. The other sports, Boxing, Baseball and Golf, will come in the following months. There are two options for buying the games. The first is to buy them for £8.99 each. The second option is to buy a Day Pass for £1.79. This gives you access to all the sports, but only for 24 hours. There is also a free trial for this after you start the game the first time.

So, I'm not too bothered about Wii Fit U or the update for Wii Street U. Wii Sports Club, however, interests me. Despite being a Wii owner, I don't actually have a copy of Wii Sports to call my own. I am eager to get the updated versions, especially as online play has been added.

In summary, the majority of the Wii Fit U Direct didn't appeal to me, as I knew it wouldn't, but something good did come out of it.
