A Tactician's Journal 5 - Just a Quick Detour

After proving themselves to not be brigands pretending to be Ylisseans, the Shepherds were allowed entry into Regna Ferox. However, rather than go and meet with the khans, the Shepherds take a quick detour to the Farfort, located on a small island roughly east of Southtown...

Side Story 1: Sickle to Sword
After our victory over the Feroxi Guard, I was convinced that we would go and meet with the khans of Regna Ferox. Somehow, we managed to travel to the Farfort, which is nowhere near Regna Ferox. I don't know how or why this has happened, but the Shepherds received a request for help when we arrived there.
A boy named Donnel made the request. He was very much a country boy, and seemed to be wearing a pot as a helm. Donnel was being chased by a bandit, although they weren't too thrilled to see us Shepherds.
It turned out that Donnel's village had been attacked, and only Donnel had managed to escape. The other villagers were going to be hauled off to a bandit camp. Donnel's mother was amongst the captured, so he asked Chrom to help him save the village.

Donnel led us to where the bandits are. Our attack came at night, and Donnel joined the fight. At first Donnel was hesitant, but Chrom was able to convince him to fight in order to grow stronger. Donnel had only experience at being a farmhand, but Chrom was convinced that a farmer's tools weren't too different from blades.
We were able to defeat the bandits, and Donnel even managed to keep up with us during the battle. After the fight was done, Chrom congratulated Donnel on a worthy first victory.

Donnel reunited with his mother, and thanked us Shepherds for the help. Before we could leave, however, Donnel requested that he become a Shepherd as well. Donnel's mother wasn't too thrilled about that, but Chrom was perfectly fine with the request.
Donnel's mother allowed him to go, only hoping to see him return home safely after his journey's over.

So Chrom led us on quite the detour today, but it was all good in the end. We were able to pick up a couple of nice items from the bandit's camp, and we also gained a new companion. Donnel may be inexperienced in the ways of war, but I suspect that some experience is all that he'll require before he becomes a hero.
With that distraction out of the way, we can finally set our sights on properly entering Regna Ferox and hopefully gaining some reinforcements for Ylisse.
