Coin Flip Chronicles Characters #1: Rin

Just a quick sketch... wow, I think I need to clean my scanner
Rin is the main character of the Coin Flip Chronicles series. She has purple hair, which meant that she was considered an outcast when she was younger. She was only able to cope thanks to her parents, but they were cruelly taken from her when she was still a child.
She inherited her purple hair from her mother, and her father was able to pass down his katana before being taken from the world. Both these things connect Rin to legends; the purple hair connects her to the legendary Witch Queen, and the katana is said to have been the very same one from the legend of the Demon Slayer.
Another strange feature Rin has is complete heterochromia iridis, or mismatched eyes. One of her eyes is a natural green colour, but the other is purple. This is another sign that Rin has some kind of power hidden within her.
Rin overcomes many hardships during her childhood, and goes on to become a fearsome warrior. However, she can't be entirely sure whether it is her own skill or the katana augmenting her swordplay. The katana never seems to grow dull, and Rin doesn't have to tend to it on a regular basis. Rin has never seen anyone else with a katana. You may notice that she carries it on her back; this stems from when she was younger. It was far too long for her to carry at her side, and she just grew up used to having it at her back.
Rin's favourite item of clothing is her duster. She wears it everywhere she goes, no matter how warm it becomes. She always wears it undone, and loves feeling it flapping in the breeze.
During her travels, Rin meets Amity. The two form a strong relationship, mainly because Rin had rarely every experienced such warmth from anyone outside of her family.
Finally, Rin is the reason that the series is called 'Coin Flip'. Whenever she has to make a decision, no matter how important, she will flip the coin. She keeps the coin inside her locket. The coin has a dragon embossed on side, and the Witch Queen's likeness on the other. Coincidentally, the Witch Queen bears more than a passing resemblance to Rin.
