Touhou Character #3: Sakuya Izayoi

Continuing the introduction of Touhou characters, I will be taking a look at one who spent some time as a playable character. She is the Perfect and Elegant Maid, Sakuya Izayoi.

The Perfect and Elegant Maid, Sakuya Izayoi

Sakuya Izayoi was introduced as the fifth stage midboss and boss in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, the sixth Touhou game and first for Windows. She is the head maid of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, and a loyal servant to Remilia Scarlet.
Sakuya is a human, although she possesses the ability to manipulate time and space. As far as I am aware, she has only ever officially used her powers to freeze time and increase the size of the interior of the Scarlet Devil Mansion.
Sakuya made several appearances in the games that followed Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. She was a selectable playable character until Phantasmagoria of Flower View for the main series of games. Aside from her appearance as a playable character in the official fighting games, Sakuya has yet to be playable again. The reason for this may be that the Scarlet Devil Mansion has had little involvement in the latest plots.
However, it seems that the fanbase adore her and the other residents of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. With the lazy gatekeeper, the perpetually-ill librarian, the charismatic vampire and her little sister as well as Sakuya, they make a great cast.
Who knows, maybe Sakuya will one day regain her role as a playable character in the main series of games...
